Bas Hollander (He/Him) is the visual arts teacher at Northeast Early College. He was born and raised in The Netherlands and graduated from the University of Salford in Manchester, England. This year he will earn his MA in Art Education. Before teaching he worked for over ten years in marketing and management of his late father’s family business. In 2004 he emigrated to the United States with his American wife. Bas has two sons. His youngest son was adopted from Ethiopia and is in High School. His oldest son is a college student at CU Denver and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2008 Bas became a U.S. citizen. In 2011 he decided to follow his passion and started his airbrush business for six years. During that time he volunteered at his children’s schools and realized his true passion is to teach art to young people. This is Bas’ 5th year teaching. He previously taught at Compass Academy Middle School in Southwest Denver. Bas has been at Northeast Early college since 2022. His goal is to teach the NEC students to think creatively, find confidence and learn to be detail-oriented and persist in their work through art. In his spare time Bas plays ice hockey, bowls in a league with his wife, plays the drums and of course draws and paints.
