Bas Hollander (He/Him) is the visual arts teacher at Northeast Early College. He was born and raised in The Netherlands and graduated in German, French & Marketing from the University of Salford in Manchester, England. He holds an MA in Art Education from the Art of Education University/Morningside College.
Before teaching, he worked for over ten years in marketing and management of his late father’s family business. In 2004 he emigrated to the United States with his American wife. Bas has two sons. His oldest son was born in The Netherlands and is a student at CU Denver. His youngest son was born in Ethiopia and is a Junior in high school.
In 2011 Bas decided to follow his passion and became a professional artist, specializing in airbrush art. While volunteering at his son’s school he discovered he enjoyed working with kids and decided to teach art.
This is Bas’ 7th year teaching. He previously taught at Compass Academy Middle School in Southwest Denver. Bas has been at Northeast Early college since 2022. He teaches concurrent enrollment Drawing 1 & Painting 1.
His goal is to teach the NEC students to think creatively, find confidence and learn to be detail-oriented and persist in their work through art. In his spare time Bas plays ice hockey, bowls in a league with his wife, plays the drums and of course draws and paints.
