A native of beautiful Colorado, Iván grew up in Glenwood Springs. He is proud first-generation college graduate, with years of experience in creating access to higher education for low-income, first-generation and minoritized youth he loves working with students from all backgrounds and helping them find their passion for education.

As the son of Mexican immigrants from Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Iván fully understands what it is like to have to navigate the college journey as a first-generation Mexican American student. He uses his personal experiences to relate to students and families. His passion is to create greater access to higher education by getting students excited about their future and providing parents and guardians with the support needed to show them that it can be done!

He earned his master’s degree from the University of Denver in Higher Education and his Bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a Mexican-Americans Minor from the University of Northern Colorado. Iván is thrilled to work as the Assistant Director for College Access Program TRIO Talent Search, as he is committed to supporting students’ access, belonging, persistence, and personal success in higher education. He also finds enjoyment in mentoring first generation students as they transition to become first generation professionals.
